These are extraordinary times. As you know, Gov. Tim Walz announced Monday that the state will temporarily close bars, restaurants and other venues that serve dine-in guests — starting yesterday, and introduced a measure to help employees of those businesses — in the state’s ongoing effort to curb the spread of the new coronavirus, COVID-19. Currently, the order extends until March 27.

Statewide, the Leisure and Hospitality industry consists of more than 15,300 establishments providing more than 291,000 jobs; or just over 10 percent of total employment in the state. This means that many people will be affected. But different regions and different counties have different concentrations of employment in Leisure & Hospitality. To help you and your staff better understand the significance of these temporary closings in your area, we have put together a 1-page brief that shares employment detail for your area. Our goal is to provide this data up front to give you a better idea of the size and scope of the industries and workers that are impacted; but please let us know if there is anything additional we can provide.

Even if only temporary, these changes will no doubt have an impact on our economy and the way we do our work. We want to be a valuable resource for you and your staff and customers during this time. We know that it is important to provide helpful, accurate information as quickly and smartly as possible. Please let us know how we can help – we are here to serve you!
