The Winona County Veteran Transport Program has been in service for as long as I can remember.
Our Veterans who can no longer drive or have a procedure that prevents them from driving to and from the VA Medical Hospitals in Minneapolis, MN and Tomah, WI, have relied on this program. This program could only survive thanks to generous donations over the years.
Winona County provides funding for the purchase and maintenance of the Veterans Transport Van. Donations raised during the year are used to pay the drivers a stipend. Our drivers spend most of their day at the VA Hospital especially when the van is full, and there are early morning and late afternoon appointments. In the past years the lowest amount paid out in a 12 month period to drivers was $6,400.00 and a high year was $8,500.00.
The following Winona County Area charitable gambling organizations have made significant contributions over the years.
VFW Post 1287
Goodview Activity Group
Eagles (FOE # 1243)
